Sigma is the unique DAW automated analogue summing engine designed for the DAW user that seeks the legendary big sound of an SSL console while retaining the convenience of working in the box,
The Stereo Bus Compressor from the 1980's G-Series analogue console is an audio production legend. It is a simple unit with a simple purpose; it makes complete mixes sound bigger, with more power, punch and drive. It brings cohesion and strength to your mix without compromising clarity.
About the SSL Sigma
The SSL Sigma is Designed for the DAW user that seeks the legendary big sound of an SSL console while retaining the convenience of working in the box, Sigma is a unique DAW automated SuperAnalogue summing engine. Sigma seamlessly brings the analogue joy of mixing on an SSL console into your DAW dominated workflow. Using MDAC technology unique to SSL, Sigma takes the SuperAnalogue mix buss from SSL's Duality and AWS consoles and delivers it in a 2U rack design, with complete remote control of the analogue signal path, using a hardware control surface and/or volume automation written inside your DAW. Now anyone who can drive a DAW can mix on an SSL.
Consistent feedback from the world's leading producers demonstrates that analogue summing still brings a record together in a special way that no emulation plug-in can match. Sigma and SSL's no-compromise approach to designing audio circuits, delivers summing with an extended low-end frequency response, wide stereo imaging, clarity, depth and detail. When it comes to sonic tone and character many leading engineers state that a significant part of their 'sound' is the magic that happens when you drive the analogue mix buss of a console a little too hard...that delicate cohesive distortion only a pushed analogue mix buss brings their mixes. This is exactly the case with Sigma. It is at its best when pushed to that "sweet spot", to the point where it yields that extra sonic dimension which has always been part of the legendary SSL sound.
Sigma combines its true analogue tone and depth with complete integration into a DAW dominated workflow. In today's commercial environment, fast turnaround of productions, with multiple mix tweaks and revisions, engineers and producers depend upon instant recall of all their settings. Sigma meets this demand. As Sigma's levels are driven from your DAW, the mix recalls instantly upon session load. Furthermore, every setting on Sigma itself (Mix Buss routing, monitoring section and settings) can be saved and recalled at the click of a button.
Sigma also features a dual output monitor and headphone switcher and talkback system which is completely remote controllable. Sigma is set up using a cross platform, tablet ready html 5 software browser that offers comprehensive configuration controls. Running on an iPad or other tablet the browser also performs as a superb remote control for the monitor switcher/talkback.

Sigma communicates with your computer a little differently to what you may be used to... it is worth reading this, all of which is covered in detail in the User Guide, before setting up.
Sigma is an analogue summing unit which can be controlled remotely using MIDI control and automation data from a DAW or a Hardware Control Surface.
Sigma uses an application called 'IP MIDI' which runs on your computer and lets you use a standard Ethernet cable connected between your computer and Sigma to carry MIDI information. You need to install IP MIDI before you can use Sigma.
Sigma can also be remote controlled using a software browser. This browser is not a piece of software you install on your computer, it is actually a set of web pages which are hosted inside Sigma. You access those web pages using a standard internet browser such as Chrome, Firefox, Internet Explorer etc. To access the Sigma Browser 'software' you simply open a tab in your internet browser and type in a number (the IP Address of your Sigma unit). This address can be bookmarked like any normal web page.
Both the Sigma Browser and IP MIDI require that a network connection exists (via Ethernet) between your computer and Sigma. This is set up in a similar way to configuring a wireless hub and requires selection of appropriate settings in your network control panel in your computer.
To use a tablet/smartphone device (iPad etc) to control Sigma you will need a Wireless Router, to which your computer and Sigma are already connected (using physical Ethernet cables). You simply connect to your tablet via WI-FI your Wireless Router's signal. This allows you to connect to and control Sigma's web pages, in a tab within your web browser. This is necessary as Sigma does not have a wireless connection of its own.
The network and MIDI control aspects of Sigma are entirely separate to the audio side of Sigma. All audio connections are made between the Sigma unit and your Computer audio interface/converters.
Sigma is powerful and very flexible.
It has 16 input channels which can be individually switched between being mono or stereo for up to 32 channels at mixdown. There is accurate metering for all channels via LED meters on the Sigma hardware unit and within the software browser. There are two stereo mix busses with dedicated outputs and individual stereo insert points to facilitate implementation of parallel compression or convenient printing of stems back to the DAW with processing applied. Mix Bus B can also be injected into Mix Bus A for final mixdown. Providing further flexibility, Mix Bus A & B inserts also include an 'insert sum' feature to sum the insert return to the mix bus.
Each input channel also features an individual direct output for printing individual channels back to your DAW. The inclusion of direct outputs streamlines integration of your selection of analogue processing into your setup, with a typical configuration connecting DAW I/O output to outboard processor input, then processor output to Sigma input and Sigma direct output back to the DAW I/O. Unlike "dumb" analogue summing boxes, with this configuration, the gains of each channel on Sigma are automatable POST the outboard processors. This means that you no longer suffer the effects of riding into outboard compressors with each volume change inside the DAW. In addition, this setup removes all the phase problems caused by sample rounding on converters when using hardware inserts to integrate analogue outboard.
An Artist and Studio monitoring section provides separate Monitor and Headphone circuits. The Main monitor output has Main and Alternative connections to accommodate 2 sets of monitors. A comprehensive switching matrix enables selection of monitor source and output. A large front panel level control uses a push-select mechanism to determine whether it adjusts Mix A, Mix B, Main Monitor or Headphone. There is also a Talkback input with adjustable Dim level. A handy front panel ijack input (3.5mm stereo socket) feeds into the monitoring section.
Switching of a wide range of functions including, monitor level and source, inserts, talkback, sum B>A and mono check can all be achieved using any standard MIDI hardware control surface. A MIDI learn feature makes setup simple and easy. A pair of user assignable dual action push/hold buttons on the front panel or a foot-switch can be assigned to the same collection of switching functions. Sigma uses MIDI over Ethernet for control and to connect to a cross platform software interface which provides additional control and setup capability.
The Sigma rack unit houses the analogue summing engine, provides connectivity, a set of bright status and level LED's, hardware controls, headphone socket and ijack input. The rear panel provides dedicated XLR connections for the Mix Bus A and the Main and Alt monitor outputs. The individual line inputs and direct outputs are connected via standard 25pin D-Sub. An additional pair of D-Sub connections handle Mix Bus inserts, Mix B output and line level Talkback input.
The Sigma software interface makes setup, control and recall of saved settings simple and easy. It runs on Mac, PC or tablet device and connects to your workstation via Ethernet (or wirelessly from a tablet). The user interface provides a series of intuitive pages that make setting up Sigma's powerful feature set straightforward. Three main screens provide control and setup of the Master Section, Channel Detail and Global Settings parameters. Every parameter can be saved for future recall making swapping between projects simple and efficient. Pan control for stereo channels cannot be automated but it can be controlled from the browser.

Sometimes hearing is believing. From time to time we put on SSL Training, workshops and clinics for our staff, customers and friends. There really is nothing quite like getting your hands on a console and being able to ask questions with SSL's very own product specialists.
Is this product in stock?
We try our best to have everything in stock, but sometimes items sell out faster than we can update the website, as this is a manual process. If this is the case we will call or email you and let you know if your order cannot be fulfilled, and what your options are as soon as possible. We have multiple warehouses around the country so the "in stock" and "out of stock" is an indication of if the item is able to be shipped from one of them, our store, or one of our distributors. Most of the time there is no difference in turn around depending where it is shipped from but if there are any delays we will contact you immediately. We do also ask if you plan on picking up an item, please contact us so we make sure it is in our store ready for you.

IF you are not home, the driver will leave a card in your mail box so you can pick-up from the local depot/post office or arrange a re-delivery.
We have found it to be much quicker & easier to have all items sent to a business address where someone will be present.
Can I ask for the courier to leave the goods at my door?
Whilst it Is possible, we highly recommend that you do not do it. All freight warranty & insurance will be void. Only do so at your own risk, if someone steals it, Musos Corner & The freight company will not be held accountable.
If you will not be able to take the delivery, it might be worth asking a friend or neighbour to take delivery of it for you.
What if it appears my goods have been freight damaged?
Please check all items before signing for them! This is very important. Do not sign for an item that appears damaged, to sign for them means "Signed for in good working order" and subsequently is out of the couriers hands, and voids insurance. If this was not possible, there can be a 24 Hour window to try and claim insurance, please contact us & the courier immediately. This only applies to orders that have paid for Insurance & are sent via courier.
Can the courier or delivery person call me prior to delivery?
Unfortunately as often as we request this, we get denied as many times. No courier or Australia post worker will call you prior to delivery despite any bribes we may try and offer.
If you select courier we will send you a tracking number which you can use to find out an estimated time of arrival for your goods, or alternatively have it sent to a business address.
Can I have my goods delivered on the weekend or after hours?
Unfortunately this is not possible at the current point in time, however you are welcome to pickup in store late night Thursday or on weekends from our Newcastle store. Please contact us to set a pickup time.
I've been emailed a tracking number, how do I track it?
The number should look like Fastway FA0000001 or Startrack YTP0000 or Aus Post 111111, Simply go to the website of the company it was sent with (Fastway,Startrack Express, Australia Post) and trace it there.
Do i need to set up my product?
All guitars some fully set up ready to play (after a quick tuning). Banjos will need to be set up after delivery as they cannot be shipped set up unless they are bought with a case. Some products like piano stands require some basic assembly as they are flat packed for shipping.
