Katana Gen 3 introduces further enhancements to BOSS Tube Logic technology, providing greater depth, expression and responsiveness. The amplifier reacts naturally to picking dynamics and guitar volume adjustments, allowing players to move between clean, driven and saturated tones with an amp-like feel.

Six onboard amp characters cover a broad range of sounds, from pristine cleans and warm crunch to modern high-gain tones. Each character also includes a selectable variation, providing a total of 12 core tonal options.

The new Pushed amp character is designed for players who enjoy the expressive feel of a valve amplifier operating at the edge of breakup. It delivers clear note definition, natural compression and dynamic overdrive that responds to the player’s touch.

The Katana-50 Gen 3 delivers 50 watts of Class AB power through a custom-designed 12-inch speaker. This combination provides the punch and projection required for rehearsals and smaller live performances while remaining compact and easy to transport.

BOSS Power Control allows the amplifier’s output level to be reduced without sacrificing the response and character of a driven amp. This makes it possible to achieve rich, cranked-amplifier tones at practical volumes for home practice, recording or quieter performance environments.

Five Independent BOSS Effects Sections

Five independent effects sections provide access to Booster, Modulation, FX, Delay and Reverb. These effects can be used together to create complete guitar sounds without requiring a large external pedalboard.

Using the updated BOSS Tone Studio software, players can customise the onboard effects with more than 60 premium BOSS effect types. Detailed editing tools provide control over individual parameters, effect order and signal routing.

Four Tone Setting memories allow complete amplifier and effect configurations to be stored and recalled. This makes it easy to prepare different sounds for songs, playing styles, rehearsals or live sets.

Updated BOSS Tone Studio Workflow

The latest version of BOSS Tone Studio for Windows and macOS features an updated interface designed to make editing faster and more intuitive. Players can adjust amplifier settings, customise effects, change effect order and access deeper tone-shaping controls from a connected computer.

Three Cabinet Resonance settings—Vintage, Modern and Deep—allow the amplifier’s response to be tailored for different musical applications. Players can also refine the three Contour settings, shape the overall sound with multiple EQ options and customise the IR-based cabinet sound used for headphones and USB recording.

Custom sounds can be saved and organised into Livesets for different playing applications. Katana tones can also be downloaded and shared through BOSS Tone Exchange.

The Katana-50 Gen 3 is compatible with sounds created for previous stage-class Katana amplifier models, allowing existing users to continue using their established tone library.

Flexible Recording and Practice Connectivity

The Katana-50 Gen 3 includes a USB-C connection for recording and playback with compatible music production software on a computer or mobile device. Its USB output features IR-based cabinet sound, allowing polished guitar tones to be captured directly without positioning a microphone in front of the speaker.

A stereo headphones output also uses IR-based cabinet processing, making it suitable for silent practice, late-night playing and direct monitoring during recording sessions.

The Power Amp In connection allows external preamps, amplifier modellers and multi-effects processors to access the Katana’s power amplifier and custom 12-inch speaker. This provides a practical amplification solution for players who use floor-based modelling systems.

Expandable Foot Control and Wireless Operation

Connections are provided for up to two footswitches and an expression pedal, allowing players to control stored sounds, effects or other compatible functions while performing.

The optional BOSS BT-DUAL Bluetooth Audio MIDI Dual Adaptor adds wireless audio playback from a mobile device. It also supports remote amplifier and effects editing through the BOSS Tone Studio app for compatible iOS and Android devices.
