Alvarez AC65HCE Artist Classical Hybrid Acoustic-Electric Guitar – Natural

The Alvarez AC65HCE Artist Classical is a hybrid nylon-string acoustic-electric guitar designed to combine traditional classical tone with a playing feel that is more familiar to steel-string guitarists. The current 2024 model features a solid A+ Western Red Cedar top, African Mahogany back and sides, traditional fan bracing and a Natural finish.

Unlike a conventional classical guitar, the AC65HCE uses a 48 mm nut width, radiused fingerboard and 14th-fret neck joint. A single cutaway provides easier upper-fret access, while the onboard LR Baggs StagePro Bronze system with Element under-saddle pickup provides amplification for live and recording applications.

Solid Western Red Cedar and Mahogany Construction

The AC65HCE uses a solid A+ Western Red Cedar soundboard paired with African Mahogany back and sides. Alvarez specifies a Natural/Gloss finish for the top and Natural/Semi Gloss for the back and sides. This tonewood combination is designed around a warm, responsive nylon-string voice with clear projection.

Hybrid Classical Playability

The AC65HCE is specifically designed as a crossover-style classical instrument. Its neck meets the body at the 14th fret, rather than the traditional 12th fret, while the 48 mm / 1 7/8-inch nut and radiused fingerboard provide a more familiar transition for players accustomed to steel-string guitars.

The cutaway body also provides improved access to the upper register while retaining the nylon-string construction and classical body shape.

Traditional Fan Bracing

Traditional fan-style bracing supports the cedar top and is designed to maintain balance and clarity across all six nylon strings. Alvarez combines this construction with an Indian Laurel bridge and fingerboard, bone nut and saddle, and a 650 mm scale length.

LR Baggs StagePro Bronze Electronics

The current AC65HCE is equipped with an LR Baggs StagePro Bronze system incorporating an Element under-saddle pickup. The compact side-mounted preamp includes a backlit tuner, volume, bass and treble controls, and phase control.
