The Aquila New Nylgut Concert Ukulele String Set – Wound Low G is designed for concert ukuleles using GCEA tuning with a low G fourth string. Aquila identifies this configuration as product code 8U, comprising a complete four-string concert set with one wound Low G string.

Made in Italy using Aquila's New Nylgut synthetic material, the set is designed to reproduce many of the tonal characteristics associated with natural gut while offering the consistency and practicality of a modern synthetic string. Aquila describes New Nylgut as having strong projection, excellent attack and a brightness level between conventional nylon and fluorocarbon.

New Nylgut Tone and Response

New Nylgut provides a gut-inspired playing response with clear articulation and good projection. Its material formulation is designed to provide consistent intonation and reduced sensitivity to changes in moisture compared with conventional nylon strings.

Low G Concert Tuning

The 8U set is configured for concert ukulele in GCEA tuning, but replaces the commonly used high G with a lower-pitched wound G string. This gives the instrument a linear G-C-E-A range and extends its lower register. Aquila specifies the tuning as G³-C⁴-E⁴-A⁴.

Wound Fourth String

The fourth-string Low G is wound, while the remaining strings use New Nylgut material. Aquila's technical data lists the wound G at approximately 0.70 mm / .0280", with the other strings individually gauged for the concert-scale set.

Note: New Nylgut can be damaged by sharp edges. Aquila recommends checking that the nut and bridge contact points are smooth before installing the strings. New strings may also require an initial settling and stretching period before achieving stable tuning.
