Yamaha MODX M6 61-Key Synthesizer

The Yamaha MODX M6 is a 61-key synthesizer designed for live performance, music production and studio use. Featuring three powerful synthesis engines—AN-X, AWM2 and FM-X—it delivers a broad selection of analogue-style synthesizer tones, expressive FM sounds and realistic acoustic instrument voices.

Its semi-weighted FSB keyboard provides velocity-sensitive response, while eight physical faders, a Super Knob and a colour touchscreen offer hands-on control over sound design and performance. Weighing just 6.6kg, the MODX M6 combines extensive synthesis capabilities with a portable design suited to working musicians.

Three Powerful Synthesis Engines

The MODX M6 features Yamaha's Motion Control Synthesis Engine, combining three distinct sound-generation technologies.

AN-X delivers virtual analogue synthesis with three oscillators, noise generation, flexible filtering and modulation options for creating classic and contemporary synthesizer sounds.

AWM2 provides sample-based synthesis with up to 128 Elements per Part, allowing detailed acoustic instrument sounds and complex layered textures.

FM-X offers eight-operator frequency modulation synthesis with 88 algorithms, providing expressive electronic sounds, evolving textures and detailed tonal control.

Expressive 61-Key Semi-Weighted Keyboard

The MODX M6 features a 61-key semi-weighted FSB keyboard with initial-touch sensitivity, providing a responsive playing experience for synthesizer performances and a wide range of keyboard sounds.

The keyboard is complemented by pitch-bend and modulation wheels, eight physical control faders, assignable controls and Yamaha's Super Knob for adjusting multiple sound parameters during performance.

Dedicated Part and Scene controls provide convenient access to different performance configurations.

Hands-On Sound Design and Performance Control

A 7-inch colour touchscreen provides access to sounds, settings and editing functions. Six dedicated display knobs allow direct adjustment of onscreen parameters, while eight physical faders support real-time performance, mixing and sound editing.

The Motion Control system combines the synthesis engines with features such as Motion Sequences, Envelope Follower and Super Knob modulation, enabling expressive changes to sounds during performance.

Extensive Sound Library and Polyphony

The MODX M6 includes 3,427 preset Performances and 10.7GB of preset waveform memory, providing a substantial collection of sounds for performance and production.

Its three synthesis engines offer maximum polyphony of 128 notes for AWM2, 128 notes for FM-X and 12 notes for AN-X, giving the instrument a combined maximum of 268 notes across the three engines.

USB Audio, MIDI and Studio Integration

The MODX M6 features USB MIDI 2.0 capability and a multichannel USB audio interface for integration with compatible computers and digital audio workstations.

At 44.1kHz, the USB audio interface supports four input and ten output channels, allowing multiple audio signals to be routed between the synthesizer and a connected computer.

The instrument also includes stereo audio inputs, MIDI connections and a dedicated headphone output. Yamaha's Expanded Softsynth Plugin provides additional software-based sound editing and music production capabilities for registered MODX M owners.

Please Note: The MODX M6 features a 61-key semi-weighted keyboard without aftertouch. It is a different instrument from the earlier MODX6 and MODX6+ models.
